Guided Bone Regeneration from Socket Management to Horizontal Augmentation presented by Dr. Alan M. Meltzer

Learning objectives:

  1.  Understand the development of a GBR defect classification system and its impact on treatment pathways

  2. Understand the classification of various membranes (bio-active and bio-inert)

  3.  Understanding the selection of the proper membrane for the proper class of defect

  4.  Understanding the selection of the proper graft material based on defect morphology

  5.  Determining the proper waiting period for graft maturation

  6.  Understanding when and how to secure a membrane to maximize GBR outcomes

  7.  Developing proper flap design for tension free primary closure.

  8.  When is primary closure mandatory?

  9.  Understand the most common complications associated with GBR and how to avoid them

About Dr. Meltzer:

Dr. Alan M. Meltzer received his D.M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his certificate in Periodontics and M.Sc.D. degree from Boston University, and his implant training at the Branemark Clinic in Gothenberg, Sweden. Dr. Meltzer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral
Implantologists and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration where he served on its Research and Education Committees. He is a Past Director of Graduate Periodontology at Temple University Dental School and is currently a clinical professor in the Department of Post-Graduate Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthetics at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Meltzer lectures both nationally and internationally on the subjects of implant design, periodontal regeneration, guided bone regeneration and surgical site preparation for complex implant placement. He has published numerous papers and has others in press on the subjects of site preparation for osseointegrated implants, aesthetic placement of dental
implants and early and immediate loading. Dr. Meltzer is also the author of a book chapter on implants and bone repair as well as the co-author of a text with Dr. Kevin Murphy on periodontal regeneration.
